Foundations of Financial Success is a highly effective, well-designed, and cost-effective financial literacy program. Participants build their financial understanding through problem-solving activities, self-reflection, adaptation, and interactive games that provide real-life scenarios to implement a life-long plan for financial success. MMW offers a robust selection of financial education topics via 60-90 minute modules covering financial goal setting, budgeting, banking, savings, credit, debt management, student loans, wages, taxes, and other relevant topics to help prepare participants for a path to economic success. MMW addresses specific participant needs throughout the program, empowering participants to remain engaged and complete the program. Our program is aligned with the National Standards for Personal Financial Education. Trained volunteer instructors deliver our curriculum in person and virtually. Our volunteer instructors are experts across the financial services industry, including financial advisors, asset managers, analysts, bankers, and tax professionals. We also incorporate guest speakers into our workshops so participants have opportunities to learn from a broad array of professionals in real-time. These speakers include local bankers, student loan experts, investors, and many more. My Money Workshop offers our volunteer instructors teaching opportunities within their local working areas and close to their homes all over the New York Tri-State area. The commitment to volunteering is very manageable-a few workshops a year. Opportunities to volunteer on a more frequent basis are also available. We especially need instructors to go into program and school settings and teach during the workday and evenings. One week before the scheduled workshop, the presentation and handout(s) are emailed to the partner and instructor. Volunteer instructors provide a survey link to participants on the day of the workshop to access and complete pre- and post-surveys.

My Money Workshop (MMW) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit financial literacy organization based in the New York metropolitan area, serving New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Mission Statement: MMW’s mission is to help students and community members develop financial strategies and skills for a better life while avoiding costly, long-lasting mistakes. We educate people to manage their finances wisely and make a lifetime of informed decisions. Agency History: Dick Yaffa, a philanthropist from Bedford, New York, enjoyed giving back to his community and frequently visited Princeton University to speak with students. After numerous conversations with college and high school students, Dick recognized that students and young adults entering the workforce lacked basic money management skills. Dick founded My Money Workshop in 2009 to address the need for financial literacy and the lack of financial education in schools. Since Dick’s passing in 2015, his family has continued his legacy and commitment to teaching and providing financial literacy to people who need it. Vision Statement: MMW’s vision is for everyone to access high-quality financial education and feel empowered to make the best financial decisions for themselves and their families. We serve as a premier financial literacy provider to youth and adults, enabling participants and the communities we serve to improve their lives by achieving their financial short-term and long-term goals. Program Approach: MMW partners with schools and community-based organizations to deliver customized workshops. We are looking for a grant writing expert to help us write several private and government grant applications. We need funding to expand our highly effective, well-designed financial education workshops to underrepresented and underserved communities. MMW is a premier, sought-after financial literacy provider with a proven track record of enabling our community members to obtain the tools, resources, and strategies to implement a lifelong plan for financial success. Since 2009, MMW has served over 25,000 participants through over 1,100 workshops in the most socioeconomically challenged neighborhoods in New York City. MMW created a holistic, customized financial literacy program to fit our participants' real needs. Our financial literacy program aligns with the National Standards for Personal Financial Education. As you know, learning about financial literacy is an indispensable life skill. Understanding and using financial skills such as money management, budgeting, and investing is especially crucial due to our economic circumstances. The deficit in financial literacy among residents of New York and the nation has been recognized by key stakeholders. In 2022, New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli reported that a recent audit showed that 2.5 million New Yorkers each owed over $37,600 in federal student loan debt in 2020, slightly more than the national average, and 11.5% of older adults live in poverty, compared to 9.7% nationally. The NYS Department of Education does not offer a statewide financial literacy program. Why do we exist? Families in New York State need to be made aware of these resources due to a lack of financial education. Our mission is to help teens and adults make financial decisions that positively impact their futures and ultimately improve their communities.
