We are a foster-based, 100% volunteer-run dog rescue based in Los Angeles. Running a dog rescue takes a team of volunteers to venture to city animal shelters to rescue dogs or meet up with families looking to surrender their dogs so they don’t enter the shelter system. Becoming a member of the Paws on the Ground Rescue Committee is a great way to be hands-on and a part of saving lives at risk at each deployment. This volunteer position requires very little time monthly because we're a small organization. Typically 1 day on the weekend once a month. Key areas we are seeking assistance in: Email and/or call with our executive director and local shelter staff liaisons regarding dogs we are looking to rescue or rehome Depending on the situation, transport the rescue dog to our partner veterinarian on the west side for their initial exam then to their foster home to get acclimated. Relay your field notes, pictures and videos to our remote volunteers to update the dog’s information and assessment. We use these regularly, so comfort with these tools is essential: Proficiency in emails, calendar functioning and CRMs Requirements: Must be able to bend, stoop, hike, walk, kneel, and lift Must be able to lift an average of 15-30 pounds if needed (ex: large dog food bags, crates, sometimes small dogs) Must be at least 21 years old with a valid driver’s license Consent to a background check for this volunteer position. Training / shadowing for your first rescue missions will be provided to learn how to assess situations upon arrival and determine what is in the dog’s best interest. Then you’ll be autonomous and set up the missions on your schedule hand in hand with the rescues that need our help that weekend. You determine your own comfort level regarding the rescue and transport. You will not be financially responsible for the dog. POLAR covers all expenses and supplies during the rescue mission. Preferred Locations: Culver City, Santa Monica, Venice, Marina del Rey, Playa Vista, El Segundo, Manhattan Beach, Long Beach

Virtual Opportunity
Paws of L.A. Rescue is a foster-based, volunteer-run dog rescue based in Los Angeles, CA. As a Rescue Care Coordinator you will be providing communication, our resources, and a commitment to surrendering families, while our adoption team finds the perfect forever home for these dogs. The post-pandemic era has ushered in a significant increase in dog surrenders, posing challenges for both the dogs and the shelters which remain overcrowded. In response to this pressing issue, our rehoming program is aimed at reducing the number of dogs surrendered to the stressful environment of shelters while supporting both the surrendering and adopting families through the transition. This is a great way to be part of saving lives from the comfort of your own home. Typical duties overview: You receive a plea from a family looking to rehome a dog. You schedule the intake call and gather detailed information about the dog to assess which Program they are eligible to enroll into. Based on your assessment you’ll establish the Care Plan for the dog and continue communication with the family as their main point of contact. While the Adoption Coordinators find a forever home for the dog, you’ll update the team on any new findings or challenges for the Adoption team to keep in mind while they find a match. Once our Adoption Coordinators have vetted the perfect match you’ll help facilitate the transition remotely. Responsibilities: Conduct Intake calls to better understand the dog’s needs Approve their enrollment into one of our Programs Establish the Care Plan and if necessary, assign Tasks to the team Ensure accurate, timely documentation using our Case Management System concerning Intake, Enrollment and Care Plans. Remain the primary contact for the families until the dog is adopted/rehomed. About you: You're autonomous! You enjoy working independently, while maintaining a collaborative environment remotely. You’ve likely been told that you’re SUPER easy to talk with! You have the excellent ability to communicate in a compassionate manner. You foresee and evaluate issues accurately while displaying sound judgment. You can commit to 2-3 hours per week to volunteering remotely. Experience in staff recruitment or project management is a plus We use these regularly, so comfort with these tools is essential: Google Suite (email & calendar functions) Salesforce or CRMs alike
