The mission of Ayuda Community Center is to reveal Jesus' mercy, renewal, and justice in the Hunting Park neighborhood of Philadelphia. Our hope is to see families strengthened and restored, through community development, arts, education, and advocacy. Our goal is to provide a holistic response to the direct needs of our neighbors. Ayuda Community Center assists families by providing academic, cultural, social, and spiritual development opportunities for youth and adults.
In 1992, in order to serve the children and families in one of the poorest neighborhoods of North Philadelphia, Spirit and Truth Fellowship Church birthed the Reese Street Community Center. The long-term goal of Reese Street Community Center was to serve its surrounding North Philadelphia community by sharing the transforming love of Christ through leadership development, job training, economic development, after school education and programming, legal aid, health care, daycare, referral services, food assistance, and clothing distribution.
In January of 1997, Reese Street Community Center changed its name to Ayuda, which means "help" in Spanish. With a new identity came a new location; Ayuda Community Center, as well as Spirit and Truth Fellowship Church, took up residence alongside each other, so to better maintain the strong partnership between the two. The church and the community center moved fifteen blocks, into the neighborhood of Hunting Park.
