Mission Statement

The Arlington Police Department's Victim Assistance Program exists to provide services to victims and family members with the goal of lessening the short and long-term trauma experienced as a direct result of victimization.

Description

The Victim Assistance Program is a unit within the Community Services Division of the Arlington Police Department, staffed by nine full time civilian employees. The program provides services to victims/survivors of all types of violent crimes that occur in Arlington, Texas, including victims of homicide, robbery, sexual assault, kidnapping, assault, child abuse, family violence, stalking, harrassment, and DWI and Hit and Run traffic collisions. The program also provides services to victims of other non-violent, but traumatic crimes and to the family members of victims. Services provided include crisis intervention and follow up, assistance with the investigative phase of the criminal justice process, assistance with filing claims for Crime Victims' Compensation, referral to available community resources, transportation to court or to shelter, child care during statements, and other services as needed.
