Description
Exotic Bird Rescue (EBR) was born out of an exotic bird fanciers club in Eugene Oregon. Members of the club began to notice several problems facing companion birds and their owners. Over population was becoming a real issue with several unscrupulous breeders in the area putting the birds health at risk to turn out 'hand-fed' baby birds to sell at a premium to the public. There was a lack of general knowledge regarding the care and feeding of companion birds leading to unhealthy and dangerous living conditions for both humans and birds. Finally that there was a growing number of people that had purchased or been given a bird that needed to find a good home for the it when their living arrangement changed.
Due to the longevity of many of the companion bird species, on average, they are forced to find new homes five times during their lifetime. EBR is a network of foster homes and volunteers in Oregon that take in birds that are not wanted or in need of a new home. We then evaluate the bird, then find and train prospective new families to adopt and care for the bird.
The number of birds needing to come in has outpaced our ability to grow. We are in need of volunteers. Some to be foster homes and take in, care for, and assist with presenting the bird to the adopting public and some to help with the day-to-day tasks that need to be handled for us to continue.
