Mission Statement

The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.

Description

The Salvation Army’s services of evangelism and social action began in East London, England in 1865 by Methodist minister William Booth and his wife Catherine. Since 1988, The Salvation Army has been at work in Johnson County, applying the same principles as William and Catherine Booth did over 150 years ago in England.

Programs include:
-Feeding Programs: Daily Food Shelf (1-2pm), Daily Soup Kitchen (Dinner), Sunday Morning Breakfast (9-9:45am), Winter Warming Shelter (Jan-March, 9-11am)

-Youth Programs: Weekly Character Building Youth Group (Wed 5:30-7:30pm), Sunday School (Sun 10am), Summer Camps (varies; at Eagle Crest Camp in Washburn, IL)

-Social Ministries Programs: Pathway of Hope (Strengths-based case management & family enrichment program), Emergency Assistance & Referrals, Thanksgiving Meal Provisions, Christmas Toy Distribution

Emergency Disaster Services (EDS): Deployment ranging from local to international, providing a wide-range of services as appropriate for the disaster.

Advisory Board: Skilled community partners attend monthly board meetings where they provide valuable insight & assist with a multitude of decisions, assist with fundraising & volunteer recruitment, and spread the overall mission of The Salvation Army.
