Mission Statement

The Science of Sport is a non-profit foundation dedicated to developing curriculum and programming that promotes Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Our programs are designed to bring math and science to life through hands-on learning by providing engaging programs for students and teachers.

Description

Our curricula are designed as in-school exercises that can be delivered by teachers or as after school programs that can be delivered by parents, coaches, and volunteers. The focus on elementary and middle school students is motivated by the fact that these age groups can still be influenced to make academic choices that will help them transition from primary to secondary education.

The Science of Sport provides detailed and engaging curriculum that focuses on the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). We do this by taking all the fun and interesting topics about the different sports and make it a hands-on learning experience for the teachers and students. Our goal is to translate the love of each sport into an appreciation, understanding, and passion of the science and mathematics underlying the sport. Through this approach, we aim to empower students who may be underperforming academically by relating core curriculum topics to their athletic strengths, capabilities, and interests. These lessons can be implemented into an after school program or a supplement to classroom activities.

The Science of Sport has four main objectives for this curriculum:

  • Increase student awareness of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) fields as a future education and career option.
  • Motivate students to excel despite obstacles.
  • Provide a measurable opportunity for individual transformation.
  • Establish a framework for sustainable change.
