Here's a sample of our volunteer opportunities:VIEW AS
Garden of Peace Project is based in Pittsburgh, PA and was founded in 2012 by Rev. Michael David Battle to center black queer and trans youth, elevate and empower the narratives and lived experiences of black youth and their caretakers, and guide revolutionary spaces of healing and truth through art, education, and mentorship. We design our work to heal the wounds of systemic and structural violence and oppression. We work to dismantle shame and isolation. We facilitate spaces to acknowledge and undo the wounding of individual, collective, and ancestral trauma. We unapologetically celebrate our lives and our gifts. We remember and reveal our magic. We have a specific focus on young people, mothers, and caretakers, as we recognize there is no movement for justice without the people who take care of the future.
Garden of Peace has been an organization for the past 5 years, run by Reverend Michael David Battle. It has grown exponentially since its inception, adding over twenty affiliated partners and putting on over thirty different programs since its founding. At the start of 2018, We have 6 NEW PROGRAMS, 3 NEW STAFF, 2 NEW ARTIST RESIDENCIES, && WE EXPANDED TO PUERTO RICO!! and, We are officially a 501(c)3 Non-Profit! There are only two nonprofits in the United States started and led by black trans men and we are one of them, and we are the only one on the east coast. We are leading the revolution! Because of all of these accomplishments, we are now trying to reach out to more people, gaining even more individual donors and supporters than ever before.
