The 2018 hurricane season has been extraordinarily active in parts of the U.S., with Hurricane Florence currently impacting millions in the Carolinas. As this natural disaster unfolds, the staff here at VolunteerMatch is doing its part to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you are prepared and safe. And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know about the most effective ways to contribute.
OUR MISSION: to provide equine-assisted therapies and equestrian activities for individuals who have mental, physical, emotional, or social challenges or learning disabling conditions.
Help us give people with disabilities a leg up! Equine-assisted therapy contributes to the cognitive, physical, emotional and social well-being of people with disabilities by the use of horse-related activities and education. People participate in our programs in groups or as individuals. Volunteers are essential to this effort, and our most frequent and pressing volunteer needs are for horse leaders (some horse handling experience needed) and "sidewalkers" (no special experience needed) during lessons. Heartland Horse Heroes is a premier accredited center affiliated with the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH) and the Therapeutic Riding Association of Virginia (TRAV). Celebrating 10 years of service in 2018, Heartland Horse Heroes continues to expand our program offerings thanks to the efforts of dedicated volunteers like you. Without your help, our program could not exist! Contact Volunteer Coordinator Teresa Wray at 434-444-0530 or at email@example.com.
