NEW EMPOWERMENT FOR REFUGEES. INC (NER), is a non-profit organization determined to love and provide services to immigrant/refugees through faith in order to promote self- sufficiency and successful integration into American society. NER, is committed to offer access to community resources and opportunities and to promote awareness of diversity for the benefit of the whole community. NER, is organized exclusively to aid refugees through economic development for charitable, humanitarian and educational purposes.
Background: New Empowerment for Refugees (NER) is a program located in the North of central area of Phoenix and Glendale, Arizona. it was begun in May 2013, by a former Refugee Called Etienne Ahayo, who flee his country 20 years ago, he has an incredible story on how much he suffered through war and his family separation. Through all the difficulties Etienne went through, he decided to start NER in order help his fellow refugees who may be going through similar barriers and problems rather to help assimilate, integrate and access the American opportunities, by teaching them English as second language (Those individuals fleeing hunger, disease, poverty, violence, displacement and death from their countries political issues and they did not have chances to go to school neither their children), provide driving lesson for them to access on transportation and assist with job placement in order for them to work and support their families. Remember many of these individuals and families had been relocated for years to the refugee camps. The camps were dehumanizing collections of desperate, residents and captors and further took a toll on the conditions and lives these men, women and children had to live through. These were the lucky ones, as many died trying to survive their way to better lives for their children and themselves. America lay ahead. NER, is an approach to the whole problem of resettlement and successful living in America and trying to the solution to many families and to impact to many lives of refugees in Phoenix area.
