Mission Statement

TCRD’s MISSION STATEMENT: Traverse City Roller Derby is a 501c3 nonprofit organization committed to enriching women’s lives through athleticism and leadership opportunities while contributing to a healthy community.

Description

WHO WE ARE:
Founded in 2010, Traverse City Roller Derby Traverse City Roller Derby is Northern Michigan’s premier roller derby league-a
nonprofit organization of competitive female athletes and supportive volunteers. The Toxic Cherries, TCRD’s WFTDA team, competes
against teams in Michigan and throughout the Midwest, adhering to the standardized rules of the Women’s Flat Track Derby
Association (WFTDA). If you haven’t had the pleasure of attending one of our heart-pounding bouts held May-August, you’ve been
missing out! Roller derby is the fastest-growing sport in the nation. There are more than 1,500 leagues around the world, with 29 right
here in Michigan. Roller derby has evolved from the staged and unruly spectacle of the ’70s to a well-regulated, strategically complex,
family-friendly sport - but don’t worry, full-contact hits and high-speed action are still essential elements!
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT:
Throughout the year TCRD partners with local nonprofits to help raise funds and awareness; past organizations have included Bay
Area Recycling for Charities, Habitat for Humanity, Disability Network, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Women’s Resource Center and AC
Paws, just to name a few. In addition, TCRD is active in our community by hosting blood drives, participating in the National Cherry
Festival each summer as well as other community festivals and events such as the Rotary Show.
