Mission Statement

Formed in 2005, Yarn/Wire is a quartet of two pianists and two percussionists based in Ridgewood, Queens, NYC. Dedicated to expanding the musical repertoire of music for piano and percussion through performance on national and international stages, the organization also engages in unique educational initiatives for students of all ages, including community outreach, university residencies, and the annual Yarn/Wire Institute at Stony Brook University, a 12-day summer program for composers and performers.

Description

In 2016, Yarn/Wire won 1st place in the Senior Open Division at the inaugural M-Prize Chamber Arts Competition. That year, the group was also honored as part of Stony Brook University’s "40 Under 40" alumni for achievements in the musical field. Yarn/Wire has appeared internationally at prestigious venues/festivals such as the Lincoln Center Festival, Edinburgh International Festival, The Barbican Centre, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Ultima Festival (Norway), Transit Festival (Belgium), and Shanghai Symphony Hall. The quartet has received rave reviews for their performances and recordings from publications such as the New York Times, The Guardian, Detroit Free Press, WIRE, and Gramophone.
