Mission Statement
Paper Airplanes is a start-up nonprofit using virtual communication technologies to provide free, one-on-one language and skills instruction to people affected by conflict so they can pursue education, secure employment, and ultimately, rebuild their lives.
Description
Paper Airplanes (PA) is a nonprofit using virtual communication technologies to provide free one-on-one language and professional skills instruction to adults and teens affected by conflict in the Middle East and North Africa region. The organization empowers these vulnerable individuals to pursue educational and employment goals, and ultimately rebuild their lives. PA currently runs the following programs: English, Turkish, Journalism, Women in Tech, and Youth Exchange. By focusing on virtual instruction, PA is able to reach not only urban youth, but also underserved populations who may be otherwise difficult to reach, including those inside of Syria, young women and girls, and individuals in rural areas across the MENA region. PA has supported over 1,500 students to date, and many of whom have gone on to attend university courses, take the TOEFL or IELTS English proficiency exams, or pursue further skills training. PA programs continually have more demand than capacity.
