Makes approved presentations to various organizations explaining hospice philosophy, including bereavement services, hospice criteria, etc. Solicits and coordinates speaking engagements, upon request. Presents oneself in neat, professional attire suitable to the occasion. Attends monthly meetings, e.g. hospice continuing education classes, support group, and/or social functions as requested. Assists in planning and hosting programs and/or social functions for the hospice community, patients and their families in bereavement. Assists with art projects, photography, posters, and development of cards, flyers and/or other special projects.

Initiates and maintains contact with assigned family/caregiver Offers various forms of assistance and support serves to aid with the bereavement process. Completes written reports of contact and submits to Volunteer Coordinator. Refers to Volunteer Coordinator any immediate needs, problems or concerns requiring professional intervention. Attends ongoing education programs and peer support groups. Maintains telephone contact with Bereavement Coordinator or designee.

Makes admission packets, patient education materials, or other handouts. Assists the Volunteer Coordinator with Volunteer Training Sessions and other activities. Writes thank you notes for donations and sympathy cards. Attends monthly meetings, on-going education programs, support group, and/or social functions as appropriate or as requested. Maintains volunteer hours tracking

Offers various forms of assistance, comfort measure, supportive services, including reading to and writing for patient, sitting at bedside, especially during dying process and caregiver relief for families. Assists patients and families to cope with problems of terminal illness and death; helps them to express feelings and concerns. Completes written reports of contact and submits to the Volunteer Coordinator. Refers to the Volunteer Coordinator any immediate needs, problems or concerns. Attends on-going education programs and peer support groups, as requested. Continues to provide emotional support to family during bereavement as appropriate or recommend bereavement follow-up by others.
