Love animals? Want to help? Come volunteer at our sanctuary! Goatlandia is a non-profit farm animal sanctuary and rescue organization. We have two locations in Santa Rosa and Sebastopol. We have goats, pigs, sheep, chickens and ducks. We are looking for volunteers that can commit to 3 hours a day, one day a week for a minimum of 3 months, to helping with feeding, cleaning, and any other animal care chores. And socializing with the animals is a bonus! It's a great way to learn about animals, experience being around them and get to know them, be outdoors, and get some exercise! Goatlandia Farm Animal Sanctuary and Education Center: Forever home to orphaned, abused or neglected farm animals Position Summary Purpose: To advise, govern, oversee policy and direction, and assist with the leadership and general promotion of Goatlandia Farm Animal Sanctuary so as to support the organization's mission and needs. Mission: Our mission is four-fold--1) to rescue farm animals and create a safe, loving home for them; 2) to inspire love and appreciation for animals by providing an opportunity for people to meet and interact with the animals; 3) to promote and inspire an eco-vegan lifestyle as a way to heal the planet, our bodies, our conscience and communities; and 4) to be a place for people to experience compassion, have fun and do cool things together. Major responsibilities: Organizational leadership and advisement to executive director Organization of the board of directors, officers, and committees Approval and oversight of policies and procedures Financial management, including approval and oversight of the annual budget Oversight of program planning and evaluation Personnel evaluation and staff development Review of advisory board's and executive director's monthly organizational and programmatic reports Promotion of the organization Fundraising and outreach *Members of the board share these responsibilities while acting in the interest of Goatlandia. Each member is expected to make recommendations based on his or her experience and vantage point in the community. Length of term: One (1) year which may be renewed up to a maximum of three consecutive terms, pending approval of the board. Meetings, time and financial commitment: The board of directors meets 3 times per year for formal meetings, at times to be mutually decided by Board Members. Meetings are held either at Goatlandia or by SKYPE or ZOOM. Meetings typically last 90 minutes. The advisory board reports to the board of directors monthly and as needed, at the minimum providing the board of directors with monthly reports from each Committee area. The advisory board's job is to do the hands-on work in areas where special focus and time is needed. These area groups are called Committees of the advisory board. The Committees of the advisory board focus on 1) volunteer management; 2) development and fundraising (cultivation and events); 3) programming including educational programming with our partner Compassionate Living; 4) oversee all needs of the building and grounds; 5) animal care, adoption and rehoming. Committees of the advisory board meet as often as needed, and at the minimum once per month. Board members are asked to attend at least one special event per year, if able. Board members are asked to contribute a minimum of $500 in financial donations and/ or the equivalent in an additional 10 hours of volunteer time for the organization per year. Volunteer time can include participating on advisory board committees, assisting with events and fundraising and/or assisting with volunteer work days. Expectations of board members: Attend and participate in meetings on a regular basis, and special events as able. Work with the advisory board volunteers as needed and able. Be alert to community concerns that can be addressed by Goatlandia Farm Animal Sanctuary's mission, objectives, and programs. Help communicate and promote Goatlandia Farm Animal Sanctuary mission and programs to the community. Become familiar with Goatlandia Farm Animal Sanctuary finances, budget, and financial/ resource needs. Understand the policies and procedures of Goatlandia Farm Animal Sanctuary. Financially support Goatlandia Farm Animal Sanctuary in a manner commensurate with one's ability. INTERESTED IN APPLYING?
