Description

The Atlantic Highlands Historical Society works to build awareness of our common past among the townspeople of today. Its goals are to research and document the history of Atlantic Highlands, share and publicize our history, and preserve and protect our physical heritage.

AHHS collects, preserves, and interprets its museum, library and archival collections that relate to Atlantic Highlands’ history and culture, and makes these resources available to the widest possible audience.

AHHS promotes the study and appreciation of local history through educational programming, publications, special exhibits, and research services.

The Society preserves and interprets its headquarters, museum and library, the Adolph Strauss Mansion, as well as helps with the preservation of other significant structures in the borough, which represent a vanishing architectural heritage.

We collaborate with others on the identification, preservation and restoration of historic sites, structures and streetscapes, develop restoration guidance and incentives for owners, and encourage historic tourism to reinforce other local economic activities.

Through its pursuit of these objectives, the Society enriches the quality of life in Atlantic Highlands by preserving and passing on knowledge of its heritage for future generations.
