Advocates for Snake Preservation (ASP) uses science, education, and advocacy to promote compassionate conservation and coexistence with snakes.
Snakes are threatened by many of the same issues that affect all wildlife, including habitat loss, climate change, and disease. But negative attitudes toward snakes may be the biggest barrier to their conservation because it often impedes efforts to address other threats.
We formed Advocates for Snake Preservation (ASP) to foster respect and appreciation rather than fear and hated of snakes. We do this by:
Conducting research on snakes following the guiding principles of compassionate conservation;
Dispeling myths and misinformation about snakes through our blog, presentations, and publications;
Identifying threats to snakes, and providing resources on how WE can address those threats.
I've been trying for years to get people to realize how insane rattlesnakes roundups are and it's great to finally have an organization that can stand up to this cruel sport. Hopefully we can sway the public just like we did with bullfighting.
