Description

Nubian Directions II, Inc. (NDI) promotes preventative health wareness and collaborative community development activities. Preventative health awareness activities include seminars and lectures, stress reduction classes, i.e. low-impact aerobics and hatha yoga, blood pressure screening, nutrition counseling and cooking workshops, iridology consultations, and health assessments. NDI places special emphasis on meeting the needs of the community and its services and activities addresses spiritual, physical and emotional wellness issues confronting low-income individuals, minority groups and families.
NDI is best known for its community development activities. 1n 1995, NDI received its first grant through Family Services, Inc. to provide computer training and information technology for low-income residents of the City of Poughkeepsie. NDI continues to provide year-round basic, intermediate, and advanced computer training and access to the Internet for low to moderate-income youths, adults and small business owners. During the summer months, NDI operates a technology camp for middle school and high school youths. NDI also runs an after school computer assisted study and research center for school aged youths.
NDI has formed and maintains partnerships with other organizations, such as Marist College, SUNY Dutchess Community College, the City of Poughkeespie Office of Social Development, the Dutchess County Department of Labor, the Dutchess County Health Department, and the City of Poughkeepsie Mayor's Office to enhance services and activities.
