Mission Statement

The mission of the IKARE is to advance the Khmer genocide survivors and their family by protecting, preserving, and promoting their voice, identity, and cultural pride. We operate the National Khmer Legacy Museum in St. Paul, MN.

Description

Since the genocide of the 1970s the Khmer people have lost their voice, identity, and pride on the worldstage. It is estimated that as much as 90% of the Cambodian Americans and Cambodian refugees living in America today have been traumatized by PTSD and other social and physiological illnesses. These illnesses have been passed down to the second and third generations, leaving few with a clear understanding of their identity and contribution in the world.

It is the vision of the IKARE to help inspire all genocide survivors and their family to be proud of who they are no matter where they live.
