THE ARC OF TEXAS

Description

The Arc of San Angelo was established in1966 as a chapter of The Arc of Texas to locally meet needs of children and adults with developmental disabilities. The Arc provided recreational opportunities and assisted with educational planning and conflict resolution. 2000-The Arc began a new program called the Guardianship Alliance of the Concho Valley. The program serves as Guardian Advocate for low-income individuals with decision-making needs who have no other family or friends willing or appropriate to serve and who are in need of protection. 2012-The Arc was chosen to conduct a pilot project for a Supported-Decision Making concept, which led to new Texas legislation. The Arc facilitated the first Agreement in Texas. 2016-The Arc established Autism Alliance, a program focused on the unmet needs of children and families. The program offers sensory-sensitive opportunities, such as theatre and live-play performances, pictures with Santa and sitter training. The program offers family grants to purchase communication devices or specialized equipment. 2016-The Arc developed a new program Access-Resources-Connections to assist families in navigating the often complex maze of services available, connecting them to local resources and to one another. Each month, a topic is presented by a local resource agency or professional at the Library. High-quality childcare is provided. 2016-The Arc began development of a Court Visitor Program to help monitor care of vulnerable adults.
