Mission Statement
RESCUE. EDUCATE. ADVOCATE. Mission: To protect and rescue sea turtles and protect their critical habitats (both land and sea), while remaining free of political influence for the benefit of conservation. Sea Turtle Oversight Protection (S.T.O.P.) is a non-profit sea turtle conservation organization made up of local volunteers who conduct nighttime nest surveys and monitoring to rescue and release disoriented sea turtle hatchlings in Fort Lauderdale, Florida between June-October each year.
Description
Rescue Personnel (June-October) have a defined enrollment period, as dictated by the Florida Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWCC). If you are interested in being a member of our rescue staff, complete your application ASAP. Training sessions are conducted ONLY in May & June and are very limited.
We are all volunteers. Regular people from all walks of life who have chosen to make a difference. For five to eight months out of the year, we re-arrange our lives to save disoriented sea turtle hatchlings. "Sea Turtle People" have to be a little crazy to get through the long nights, but the dedication of our volunteer staff is second to none. Being a STOP volunteer is the toughest job you will ever love.
We have "off the beach" opportunities as well:
- Events & Educational Outreach (Year-round)
- Lighting Task Force (Year-round)
- Marketing & Social Media (Year-round)
- Grant Writing & Fundraising (Year-round)
