Description
The Big Sky Conference enters its 55th year and 29th year of women’s competition during the 2017-18 season.
The Big Sky’s full membership represents nine states, spanning from the Pacific Ocean to the Red River Valley of North Dakota. The league is represented along the entire west coast with institutions in Washington, Oregon and California. League schools also range up and down the Rocky Mountains with institutions in Montana, Idaho, Utah, Arizona and Colorado.
The Big Sky is one of three conferences in the western United States playing Division I football and is a national leader in the Football Championship Subdivision. Big Sky teams have won the Division I National Championship seven times, including Eastern Washington most recently in 2010. In 2016, Northern Arizona won the NCAA Division I Men’s Cross Country National Championship, making them the first team to win a national championship in a sport other football. Currently, the Conference sponsors championships in 16 sports (nine women’s and seven men’s sports), including softball, women’s soccer, men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track and field, basketball, golf, and tennis.
