Mission Statement
The United Tastes of America harnesses the power of food to increase cross-cultural understanding and unity. Our programs offer hope foster autonomy, and affirm the dignity of refugees and vulnerable populations by building on their strengths. Our goal is to shift the paradigm of working with vulnerable people from one-shot charity to building on people’s assets to create holistic, sustainable systems that meet real and ongoing needs. Our core program is the Syria Supper Club. It brings new and old neighbors together at food events, with resettled people cooking and local neighbors covering program costs. SSC provides networking for refugees, and helps with their integration into the US.
Description
The United Tastes of America operates out of a different paradigm: refugees and Americans both bring assets to the work of resettlement of refugee families. Our work is to facilitate a connection between the two groups that is based on mutual appreciation and commonalities, drawing on the unique attributes of each group. United Tastes of America is committed to working with refugees over a long period, addressing a wide range of problems. It also offers a mechanism for Americans to effectively channel their good intentions.
