Description
The Young Professionals-Chronic Disease Network (YP-CDN) is a nonprofit, nongovernmental organization whose mission is to mobilize a global community of young leaders to take action against the social injustice driving non-communicable diseases (NCDs). NCDs, which include cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, mental illness, and chronic lung disease, have overtaken infectious diseases as the world’s leading killers. NCDs cause millions of preventable deaths, particular in less developed nations where there is a lack of access to preventive measures or lifesaving treatments proven to be effective against NCDs.
YP-CDN was launched in 2009 in order to unify young professionals wishing to take action on NCDs at the global level and to provide a platform for local youth to drive local change in low- and middle-income countries. It is a collaborative international network, built from the idea that young professionals and students should be the central catalyst for the emergence of new ideas, and provide the passion to confront the NCD challenges as a matter of improving social and economic justice.
