Mission Statement

To increase musical knowledge, appreciation, experience, and performing abilities in an extraordinary group of talented young people; to nurture their character development; and to increase musical knowledge and appreciation among the general public.

Description

Recognized as one of the finest youth orchestra organizations in the nation, AYP Orchestras provides orchestral training and performance experience to 325 of the Greater Washington, D.C. area's talented young musicians. The AYP Orchestras-the American Youth Philharmonic, American Youth Symphonic Orchestra, American Youth Concert Orchestra and American Youth String Ensemble-present a season of 10 concerts and several outreach performances for the community, with attendance of more than 15,000 annually. Members are selected to participate based on their musical achievements through an audition process each spring; AYP Orchestras accommodates every qualified student regardless of financial status, offering scholarships based solely on need. Outreach activities, such as the Music Buddies Mentorship and Chamber Ensemble programs, create additional opportunities to bring music to the community.
