Our Mission To provide compassionate care to and assist all terminally ill residents of the District of Columbia to live as fully as possible, while supporting them and their loved ones through a comprehensive program of pain and symptom management, and psychosocial, spiritual, bereavement and volunteer support, and to educate the entire community about end-of-life issues and care.
Among the services Hospice Care of DC offers: Treatment of the patient's physical symptoms and pain by a physician-directed, nurse-coordinated team of health care professionals Care for the spiritual, psychosocial and emotional pain of patients and families facing death, provided by clergy, social workers and trained volunteers Emotional support for the patient's family and friends during the illness Bereavement care for the surviving family and friends after the patient's death On-call availability of the Hospice team, 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week Coordination of related services, such as certified nursing assistants, physical, occupational and speech therapists; and others who may be needed to provide comfort and symptom control Management of medications, medical supplies and equipment related to the patient's terminal illness Coordination of in-patient care, when appropriate
