The mission of Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens is to promote awareness, enjoyment, and understanding of plants and their diverse interactions with mankind. Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens collects, maintains, and displays living plants for the appreciation and benefit of all persons in Western Pennsylvania and abroad. Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens fosters learning about plants through educational and recreational programs and promotes research on their cultivation and natural history while conserving the architectural heritage of its historical building. Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens fulfills its role as part of a larger botancial communitly by advocating responsible stewardship for plants and the habitats they sustain worldwide.

Description

Victorian plant conservatory made up of 13 display rooms and botanical gardens including Japanese garden, Childrens Discovery Garden, rose garden, aquatic gardens, perennial and annual gardens, and 9 production houses. Phipps recently merged with the former Pittsburgh Civic Garden Center, located behind the Center for the Arts at the Corner of Fifth and Shady in Shadyside's Mellon Park. This merger opened up many new volunteer possibilities at the beautifully landscaped Garden Center.
