Mission Statement

Reach Out and Read is a reading program of the Council for Children's Health. The program is held in pediatricians' offices and is designed to show young children that reading is fun and to encourage families to read together. The Council for Children's Health brings together concerned advocates for children, and is an organization that has responsibility to coordinate efforts of local government, private and public pediatricians, primary care providers, community organizations and groups, and volunteers and charity efforts.

Description

The Reach Out and Read program has three components: the volunteers who read in the waiting areas in pediatric offices, the new, age appropriate book that is given to each child 6 months through 5 years that comes in for a well child visit, and the practitioners who give the children the books while discussing reading to the caregivers during the visit. There are six sites, four in the Greensboro area and two in the High Point area.
