We recruit local and international volunteers to help make our programs happen. We provide a variety of programs to our community, all of which volunteers have the opportunity to contribute to when they join us. Our primary focus is in providing English language education, which we do through our English School program for kids and Conversation Classes for adults. In addition, we have our Environmental Program, where we support local initiatives and provide educational programs to the communities we serve focused on preserving and improving the environment. We also regularly host fun activities through our Social Interaction Program and offer support to communities within and around Trujillo as needs arise. For more information about our programs, please visit: espaanglisch.org/what-we-do Where We Work The majority of our work currently takes place in Alto Trujillo, an area that was created in the 1980s by migrants fleeing armed conflict in the highlands and which has since grown to a population of approximately 45,000 people. It is one of the most impoverished areas of Trujillo, with many neighborhoods lacking basic services such as water and electricity, let alone access to quality English language education. Accommodation Most volunteers stay at our volunteer house, otherwise known as the "Espaanglisch Casa", in Trujillo which is a 10 minute walk from the city center. The house has hot water (a commodity in Peru), internet access, and kitchen facilities. SeƱora Carmen, the landlady, will help you practice your Spanish. We have found that having our volunteers live together makes for an enjoyable and cohesive experience. Our adult Conversation Classes are taught downstairs so it's super convenient. Social Interaction Activities It’s important to us that your volunteer experience goes beyond the classroom. In our Social Interaction Program, we regularly host fun activities that help us to raise additional funds for our programs and give you the opportunity to meet new people, experience Peru from a local perspective, and explore. Some of these activities include mountain climbing, beach bonfires, family dinners, road trips, and cycling excursions. Cost The volunteer program fee is $150 USD per month for international volunteers. This fee covers the cost of housing, pick-up from the local airport/bus station, and administrative support. Meals and any additional activities are not included in the monthly cost.
