Dishwasher/Dishwasher Aide - Assist in ensuring all dishes and equipment are washed, sanitized, dried and stored after use. This position takes approximately 2-3 hours each shift. A food handler's card is required. Shopping Assistants for Local Non-profit helping people who are newly housed select furniture for their new place - Any day Tues- Sat 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. We are looking for RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) age 55+ Shopping assistants work directly with the clients we serve assisting them with shopping for their furniture and household items. Do you have two to four hours a week to help your community? Then you are a perfect candidate for the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP)! Volunteer opportunities are available assisting with serving or preparing a nutritious meal at various Senior Meal Sites in Tacoma, Ruston, Lakewood, Fife, Gig Harbor, Puyallup, Sumner, Steilacoom, Tillicum (Japanese meal) and University Place. The majority of these meals sites serve lunch at noon and the volunteers start at 11 AM. Some sites offer meals Monday through Friday; others are two or three days each week. No weekends. VOLUNTEER POSITIONS AVAILABLE: Host/Hostess and Registrar - Assist in collection of administrative and monetary details for the report of attendees. Service/Waiter and Beverage Server - Assist in serving the meal, deliver plated food to the tables, assist with clean-up of all areas of the kitchen and other duties as required. Table Setter - Assist in setting up tables, sanitize tables and chairs prior to set up, ensure salt and pepper shakers and condiment holders are clean and refilled daily. Cooking/Kitchen Aide - Assist with prepping and serving the meal and/or maintaining kitchen cleanliness. Food Handler's Card is required. Museum Greeters Welcome museum visitors and share your enthusiasm for local history Our docents are friendly ambassadors who greet museum guests and engage them in learning about Tacoma history and life in the 1800s. Museum greeters have excellent communication and customer service skills. They must be available for at least one shift per month Community Outreach Help us share the Museum with the community We strive to serve the Tacoma community beyond the walls of the Cabin. Volunteers assist with distributing free activities for kids at Tacoma Farmers Market and Little Free Library locations in neighborhoods throughout the city. Field Trip Assistants Assist with fun, hands-on activities for elementary school students The museum welcomes school visits on weekday mornings. Our field trip assistants engage small groups of elementary students in easy-to-learn arts, crafts and games. Special Events Assistants Help us build a stronger Tacoma community Special event assists welcome guests and assist with creative arts and crafts activities during our annual Pioneer Days Festival and other community events. Volunteers also help to set-up and clean-up for single-day events at the museum and in the community. Administrative Assistants Provide necessary administrative support for museum activities and events Administrative volunteers assist with a variety of behind-the-scenes tasks that allow us to keep the museum running in a smooth and professional manner. Assembling monthly craft kits, helping with mailers, and inspecting our field trip items are all important ways that admin volunteers contribute to the day-to-day activities of the museum and allow us to tell about the birthplace of Tacoma . Tour Guides Showcase Old Town's historic buildings and landmarks Tour guides lead walking tours of historic Old Town Tacoma for elementary school students, senior groups and the community. We are looking for volunteers age 55 and over to join the RSVP (see description of this AmeriCorps Senior Program below.) Volunteer Opportunities at elementary schools in Puyallup: Enrichment | 1 hour/+ a week Come color, do word search, arts/crafts, work on a puzzle with a student Playground play | 1 hour/+ a week Come to an elementary school and play outside at recess with the kids. Shoot baskets, "watch me" on the monkey bars, kick a ball, jump rope. Active on your feet outside no matter the weather. Academic tutoring | 1 hour/+ a week Sit indoors with a student one on one with program provided materials and help a child with reading. Outside of school building volunteer involves lifting, carrying, loading and unloading of canned goods at food drive time and school supplies at school supply drive time.
