Do you have a heart for helping others and a little time to spare? If so, our patients and families/caregivers could use a compassionate friend. Patient/Family Support Volunteers provide in-home respite care, which allows caregivers a few hours of much needed personal time. Talk, listen to music, watch TV, read or just be there to listen and hold a hand. Companionship Volunteers spend time visiting with our patients in nursing and assisted living facilities who don't have family or friends visiting them.

Companionship volunteers sit with patients to talk, read, play music, play games, do crafts, watch TV or just provide some much needed company. They may even be able to take the patients outside for some fresh air. Volunteers make their own hours and decide how much time they would like to volunteer. Most visits are 1-2 hours. Any time that you are willing to give to our patients is wonderful. Volunteers aren't caregivers and can not provide hands on care. We provide orientation and training so that volunteers feel comfortable from the very start. ***Volunteers receive mileage reimbursement for patient visits***

Bristol Hospice is recruiting Veterans for our Veteran-to-Veteran program volunteer program. Veterans who serve our nation are deeply deserving of honor and respect. Veterans have a unique shared experience and culture, and this becomes even more important near the end of life. Our Veteran-to-Veteran Volunteer program can provide support with the following activities: Assist Veterans in reminiscing and sharing life stories by connecting them with fellow veterans from the community. Assist patients in receiving Veteran Benefits. Take part in honoring Veterans for their military service. Assist Veterans in replacing lost awards and decorations. Veteran hospice volunteers are a valuable resource for other veterans as the share similar experiences, common military terminology, and a military bond. Volunteers receive mileage reimbursement for patient visits.
