WindowDressers is a volunteer-driven non-profit organization dedicated to helping Maine residents reduce heating costs, fuel consumption, and CO2 emissions by lowering the amount of heat lost through windows. WindowDressers achieves this goal by organizing community builds where citizens come together to construct insulating window inserts which reduce the need for heat during cold seasons. Customers of WindowDressers reduce their fuel consumption, on average, by 10%-20%, often leading to payback periods of less than a year. 22% of window inserts constructed are donated to low-income families who could not otherwise afford them. Many of these families choose to donate back to the program in order to help others in the community.
Neighbors helping neighbors: Insulating window inserts are built at collaborative, fun community workshops. Our customers are our volunteers. Get insulating inserts at a fraction of the market price by joining one of our Community Builds.
Don't need inserts? Many community members volunteer at our Builds every year because they are driven by a concern for our environment and by social and economic justice concerns for our neighbors. Plus the builds are a fun way to co-create community.
This is a good group of people doing wonderful work to keep people warm in Maine through volunteers making window inserts. Some are sold to fund the ones given away to needy people in drafty homes. The inserts themselves quiet and stop drafts and are great as well. You would enjoy the process (especially shrinking the plastic with heat)!
