About the Lane Victory: The Lane Victory is an operational cargo ship that served during WWII, as well as the Korean and Vietnam Wars. This historic vessel played a crucial role in supplying troops and delivering vital resources to support military operations. The Lane Victory is now a floating museum and memorial, providing an immersive experience into the maritime history of the United States. JOIN OUR CREW! Volunteer Opportunities: Tack Welding: Help maintain the structural integrity of the Lane Victory by applying your welding skills where needed. Painting: Bring new life to the ship by contributing to our ongoing painting projects, preserving its iconic appearance. Electric: Assist with electrical repairs and installations to ensure the ship's systems are in proper working order. Housekeeping: Keep the ship clean and welcoming for visitors, ensuring a pleasant experience for all who come aboard. Greeters: Welcome guests aboard the Lane Victory, providing them with information and answering their questions. Tour Guides: Share your passion for history by leading guided tours and educating visitors about the ship's fascinating past. Museum Support: Assist in cataloging artifacts, organizing exhibits, and maintaining the museum's collection. Community Outreach: Contribute to the success of special events held on board, from fundraisers to educational programs. Administrative Support: Assist with Office Management, membership and volunteer applications. Produce membership badges. And more! We are an all-volunteer crew dedicated to the restoration and maintenance of the Lane Victory in fully-operational and sea-worthy condition. The Lane Victory Maritime Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to preserving this living historical monument, memorial space, and museum highlighting the crucial contributions and sacrifices of the U.S. Merchant Marine Service and the U.S. Naval Armed Guard in protecting this country and maintaining vital supply lines during times of war. Join us! OPPORTUNITY: Under the Supervision of the Museum Curator, tasks will include assisting the Curator with archiving artifacts, maintaining both the Main Museum and Forward Museum in order, and assisting with assembly and tear down of exhibits as needed. REQUIREMENT: Volunteers must be at least 16 years old. You must have stamina and be able to handle ladders (more like stairs, but a bit steeper and with railings). Qualified folks with mobility challenges should contact the Volunteer Coordinator about possible accommodations. Scheduling is flexible, with a minimum requirement of 10 hours per month. A positive attitude is a must. PROCESSING AND TRAINING: Prospective volunteers must complete an application before our New Volunteer Orientation (NVO). Prospects may apply and interview for multiple opportunities, but acceptance is determined by each department head and the Board of Directors. New volunteers are paired with a Sponsor within their first month and are expected to attend an orientation. Departmental training is provided through one-on-one mentorship. Join us! OPPORTUNITY: "Welcome aboard the SS LANE VICTORY. My name is ______________. Is this your first time visiting the Lane Victory Maritime Center?..." The Lane Victory Maritime Center is seeking folks to work our gangway booth (admission booth) and welcome people aboard our historic ship. Requirements: Greeters must be at least 16 years old and comfortable dealing with the public. As a Greeter, you play a key role in the guests' experience, as you are usually the first face they see when they step off the gangway and onto the deck. People skills and critical thinking are a must. We want each guest to leave with a smile. When in doubt, a Director will be on board to guide/support you. We book groups of all ages to come aboard and explore the ship, while learning about American history, Victory ships, and various conflicts. It is an eye-opening experience and we strive to provide high quality tours of our proud ship. If you enjoy ships, history, KIDS and education, join the esteemed Tour team. No experience necessary.
