Description

Although the Church of the Covenant is committed to a wide-ranging social justice mission - including the housing of the Women’s Lunch Place in our lower level - the Covenant Boston Preservation Project is a 501(c)(3) organization committed solely to restoring and maintaining the historic Tiffany-designed interior of the church, including its 42 Tiffany windows. Thanks to the support of previous donors, this priceless little-known Boston treasure is open to the public 6 days a week during warm weather.

During the 1890s, the Neo-Gothic sanctuary of dark walnut wood and pseudo-medieval stained glass was completely redecorated by Tiffany Glass and Decorating Company under the supervision of J.A. Holzer of the Tiffany Company and the minister, Dr. Edward L. Clark.

The sanctuary was transformed by a gigantic electrified lantern, baptismal font, 42 stained glass windows, mosaics, decorative arches and a paint scheme that united all the elements. Tiffany's artistic vision is here--in the "aesthetic" colors of red, green and blue that tie the scheme together, the Islamic motifs and the preoccupation with light and nature.
