Assist in providing support at community events by engaging and promoting volunteerism, services and/or other CCD initiatives. How can I help? Assist the Volunteer Coordinator Team by staffing the CCD booth at community events and volunteer fairs to engage and help promote volunteer recruitment, services and/or other initiatives at Community Care Durham. What is expected of me? Flexible scheduled shifts with a time commitment of 2-3 hours. Dates and times of shifts will vary depending upon the event and could be daytime, evenings or weekends. Duties may include: * Pick up and/or return CCD booth and materials to the local Hub * Booth set-up and/or tear down * Greet visitors at the booth * Hand out CCD literature and promotional items * Converse with visitors in promoting volunteering and CCD services and answer questions Find a location close to you: Events take place throughout Durham Region. Assist and/or facilitate alongside staff with meal preparation and kitchen routines. How can I help? Reporting to Adult Day Program staff, assist with meal preparation and kitchen routines. What is expected of me? Assistance is needed Monday through Friday from 9:30am until 1:30pm. Flexible shifts based on your availability with a time commitment of one day per week. Volunteers provide face to face visits to clients on a weekly basis to share in conversation and common interests. How can I help? Make a new friend and share in-person conversation, companionship and experiences. What is expected of me? Flexible schedule based on your availability (weekday or weekend, daytime or evening). Visits are typically 1-2 hours per week. Three-month commitment preferred. Visit your client on a weekly basis Visit can occur in the clients’ home, outside or include an outing If you are transporting a client in your vehicle, you must have a driver’s abstract on file Volunteers are not to provide personal care to clients including, but not limited to, lifting, transferring, toileting, and dispensing medications. How can I help? Using your own vehicle, provide transportation for clients to medical appointments (local and long distance), grocery shopping and other activities. What is expected of me? Flexible scheduling (weekday or weekend, daytime or evening). Assist with group facilitation and social recreation in supporting clients with emotional and/or mental health concerns. How can I help? Reporting to COPE staff, assist COPE Mental Health clients in fulfilling their self-identified goals through the facilitation of a mental health support group. What is expected of me? A variety of groups are offered Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:30am and 9:00pm. Flexible shifts based on your availability with a time commitment of 1 to 3 hours per week. Provide unbiased and observational support to COPE clients Meet at scheduled times with clients (e.g. scheduled support group) Submit completed client notes and attendance sheets on a regular basis Submit Volunteer Report Forms at month end to the COPE Program Manager (if applicable) and provide regular updates Attend in-service meetings, workshops and volunteer support meetings as scheduled A commitment of 1 year is required after orientation and training.
