Mission Statement
The GCP Foundation's mission is to alleviate energy poverty in Africa by using renewable energy.
Description
We align our work with the Sustainable Development Goals - namely:
1 - Alleviate Poverty
3 - Good health and well-being
4 - Improve quality education
5 - Promote Gender Equality
7 - Affordable and clean energy
13 - Protect the environment
Our target countries are Nigeria, Kenya, Mozambique and Ghana.
We have completed our pilot project replacing kerosene lamps with hand-held solar lightbulbs to 500 women in Northern Ghana [see our pilot project website for more information http://gcpsolar.ghanacp.com/]
To provide a light for a lady to work or a child to study costs £26.
The impact assessment of our work provided the following information:
Lamps distributed: 500
Lives empowered: 2,500
School children reached: 1,500
Money saved per ann: US$62,500
Kerosene avoided per ann: 30,000 litres
With your support we can help more children read, protect the environment and empower more families.
