We create a community of readers and empower individuals with free access to information and the universe of ideas. We aspire to be a welcoming place where reading, learning and imagination thrive; a recognized leader and respected voice in our community; and a model library in our industry.
The Charlotte Mecklenburg Library is one of America’s leading urban public libraries, serving a community of more than one million citizens in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. Through 20 locations, targeted outreach and online, the Library delivers exceptional services and programs, with a mission to improve lives and build a stronger community. In short, we strive to be essential to our community. We serve hundreds of thousands of people while also responding to the needs of individual library visitors. Since our founding in 1903, as an original Carnegie Library, our role as a provider of lifelong education in this community has never been more relevant.
