Mission Statement

As a Red Cross volunteer, you can help people displaced by disaster, or go into schools and show children how to prepare for a fire or disaster. You can teach Hands Only CPR and First Aid, or go out into the community spreading the Red Cross mission. Most of all, Red Cross volunteers help save lives and what could be more fulfilling than that?

The Red Cross has been serving Northern Nevada since 1898. Our territory covers 87,000 square miles with offices in Reno, Elko, Winnemucca, and Incline Village. We are making a difference. As of 1 March 2018, the Red Cross and our partners have saved at least 348 lives across the country through the Home Fire Campaign.

  • The campaign has also reached 1,019,644 children through youth preparedness programs, and installed 1,135,679 free smoke alarms.

Here in Washoe County, since 2015 we have installed:

  • 1900 smoke alarms;
  • Served 1714 Nevadans;
  • 576 homes made safe
As of 2018 we have installed 234 alarms in 53 households.
