Mission Statement
The Los Angeles City Attorney Dispute Resolution Program aims to raise awareness about the benefits of mediation; encourage the use of mediation as a first alternative in resolving conflicts and building understanding in communities throughout Los Angeles; and to be a nationally recognized leader in advancing community mediation, community-police relations and alternative dispute resolution.
Description
The Los Angeles City Attorney Dispute Resolution Program offers mediation services free of charge to residents of Los Angeles County. Mediation is a method of alternative dispute resolution available to assist parties in resolving differences. Through this process, a volunteer mediator serves as a neutral third party to facilitate communication and assist parties in reaching a mutually accepted agreement. Mediation is confidential, participation is completely voluntary, and disputes are typically resolved in far less time than in the traditional justice system.
