Mission Statement

Mission Statement We are a place where patients, their families, and hospital employees can enjoy a break, while also raising money for uncompensated care of children requiring services in the hospital.

Description

Roth Auxiliary for Children manages and operates the Gift Shop located in Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital, Stanford. All of our profits go toward uncompensated care. Since the hospital opened we have donated over $2 million for services the hospital provides that are not covered by insurance.

LPCH is opening a beautiful new hospital in December and our gift shop will be in a larger space with increased hours of operation. Thus, we wish to add more volunteers to work as sales associates. No prior experience is required. We train you. A shift is approximately 4 hours; and shifts are available for morning, afternoon, evening, and weekends. Since we operate inside the hospital, you will need to meet the health and safety requirements set by the state for persons working with children.

We encourage our volunteers to be members of Roth, but it is not required. As a member you can be involved with planning and buying for the shop, and exercise your right to vote. (You also receive a 20% discount on purchases) Roth Membership dues are $50 per year to cover the costs of printing our membership directory and our Quarterly Membership meetings. The camaraderie of Roth members is an added benefit.

Volunteering in the gift shop is rewarding because we have the opportunity to interact with the children and families in a very positive, supportive way. Whether it is helping a child pick out a gift for a new baby brother or sister, taking a phone order from a long distance grandparent then gift wrapping and delivering that gift or just being there for each person who steps into our shop, guests and staff alike. It is heartwarming to know when we go home after our shift that we have made a difference. We are proud to be affiliated with the most technologically advanced, family-friendly, and environmentally sustainable children's hospital in the country.

I have volunteered at the Gift Shop for seven years and thoroughly enjoy my time there. I meet interesting families and hospital staff. Each day is different and I get a lot of personal satisfaction in addition to knowing that I have helped raise funds for the many things LPCH does for its young patients.
