Mission Statement

Human Rights Committees (HRCs) are groups of local citizens who provide independent oversight in matters related to the rights of people with developmental disabilities. Members include people who receive supports and their families, advocates, professionals and any other community members who are committed to protecting the rights of DDD members.

Description

Responsibilities

  • Review incidents of neglect, abuse, or denial of a member’s rights.
  • Review behavior plans.
  • Review proposed research involving members.
  • Make recommendations for change to the legislature regarding laws, rules policies, procedures needed to protect members’ rights.

Time commitment

Committees meet once a month for 2-3 hours.

Requirements

  • Background Check
  • Must be at least 18
