Here's a sample of our volunteer opportunities:VIEW AS
Our mission is to provide a quality, comprehensive, safety education program to pre and post-kindergarteners, regardless of a family’s ability to pay for services. It is our goal to decrease the incidence of preventable injuries and lower the mortality rates among children. Through our program, we strive to give children the tools to develop and build a foundation of safety knowledge and awareness, to empower them to make safe choices for a safe future.
Through multimedia, songs, and guest visits, the Safety Town program teaches children to evaluate "safe" from "unsafe." Under the guidance of volunteer youth instructors and credentialed teachers, children practice and experience their lessons in Safety Town, a miniature city layout built to the scale of a small child. SafetyTown is a 17.5 hour course (3.5 hours per day, M-F, for 1 week). Topics discussed during the week include pedestrian, earthquake, fire, 9-1-1, bicycle, beach and pool, drugs, strangers, along with home, playground and personal safety. Children are visited by community safety professionals such as police, firefighters, forest rangers, paramedics, water safety professionals, and more. Program includes one off-site field trip, (ride on city bus reserved for Safety Towners only).
