Mission Statement

Our mission is saving and restoring this important community resource as well as getting people outdoors to experience the healthy lifestyles trails offer.

Description

The Rail-Trail Council of NEPA is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization developing abandoned rail beds into public recreational trails. They have purchased the 38 mile D&H (Delaware & Hudson) rail bed that runs through Susquehanna, Wayne, and Lackawanna Counties. The Council has resurfaced 10 miles of trail to date and recently received funding for the development of 6 more miles! Our programs help people become better connected to the outdoors and to help them to grow their appreciation for the protection of our special places. We offer recreational programs year round including Discover the D&H, Winter Trail Days and Secrets of the D&H. This will be our 10th year hosting the D&H Distance Run, a half-marathon fundraiser which grows in popularity each year. The RTC has over 16,000 members and 32 board members, many of whom are actively involved in the community and connect the trail to different user groups. Our staff includes an Executive Director, Program Manager and Administrative Assistant. The Council holds monthly public meetings at area restaurants, publishes a quarterly newsletter and has an office in Union Dale, PA.
