Philadelphia Youth Tennis, Inc. unites the indoor instruction at the Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis Center with the summer National Junior Tennis League teachjing life skills through the game of tennis. In response to improved programming and increased demand over the past three years, we now serve (1) over 12,000 children at the Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis Center (AAYTC); (2) over 4,000 children through National Junior Tennis League (NJTL) citywide summer program; and (3) approximately 350 children in our after school programs at inner-city schools and recreation sites. Virtually all the children in our AAYTC after school programs are at-risk, and all receive full program scholarships from us. Our programs encourage young people to face new challenges and allow them to build self-esteem. Leadership skills are developed and summer job opportunities are built into the PYT structure. Through year-round programs, Philadelphia Youth Tennis provides qualified instructors (and role models), equipment and positive opportunities for 5,000 children annually - many of whom participate at little or no cost. Life lessons are taught through the game of tennis and we offer a safe haven for the children at times when are most likely to be lured by crime and violence.
