Volunteers can serve in many ways:

• Patient companionship
• Family respite
• Bereavement support
• Professional support
• Spiritual support
• Office support; filing, data entry, making copies and folders
• Newsletter support; editorial, poems, how-to’s
• Special events and holiday activities

Locations a volunteer might serve:

• The home of a patient
• A Nursing Facility, Assisted Living or a Personal Care Home
• A Hospital
• Our Sister Mary Hospice In Patient Center located at 5131 Medical Drive, Suite 310, SAT 78229
• Our central offices at 4241 Woodcock Dr., Suite A-100, SAT 78228

Requirements for Patient Care Companionship Volunteers

• Essential skills training is required by the state of Texas
• A valid driver’s license and current auto insurance
• Criminal background check
• TB test
• Drug screening
• Attend In Service trainings held throughout the year
• CHRISTUS VNA guidelines require that Hospice Volunteers who have experienced a death in their own family wait for a period of one year before returning to patient companionship or public relations and community activities.

Requirements for Office and Staff Support Volunteers:

• Orientation training
• Criminal background check
• Drug Screen
• A valid Driver’s License and current auto insurance
