Mission Statement

The San Francisco Bay Area Chapter of the US National Committee for UN Women was launched in June of 2009. UN Women is the United Nations program tasked with advancing women’s rights and development around the world. We are committed to expanding support and raising funds within the United States for UN Women. We work in the San Francisco Bay Area to raise awareness about the women's rights issues facing our world and local community.

Description

The Chapter :

  • Partners with other Chapters, women’s groups and like-minded organizations
  • Educates on global women’s issues and UN Women in our Bay Area communities (documentaries screening, discussions, lectures...)
  • Advocates for legislation on global women’s issues, especially on leadership, economic participation, ending violence against women, and peace and stability (CEDAW, I-VAWA, UNSCR 1325)
  • Advocates for funding for UN Women through US Congress
  • Increases membership to build support and funds for UN Women and global women’s rights
