Here's a sample of our volunteer opportunities:VIEW AS
Service-Learning & Volunteering at USM provides a pedagogical approach that integrates academic learning with meaningful experience or work in the community. It is an experiential focus on learning that must be embedded in the curriculum. Students in community engagement bring theories, knowledge, and practices developed through academic reading, writing, and analysis to specific topics-related study and work in community sites. Community engagement advances USM’s mission to foster in students "a spirit of critical inquiry and civic participation." We believe community engagement is a critical element of USM’s commitment to the Maine community.
The Service-Learning and Volunteering office is a resource to multiple audiences:
Students: We have strong community relationships throughout Southern Maine and on campus. We can connect you to a wide variety of experiential learning opportunities including service-learning experiences, volunteer and internship opportunities.
Community Partners: Our commitment is to mobilize USM students, faculty, and staff to address community-identified needs in partnerships marked by respect, reciprocity, and mutual benefit. We can connect you with our faculty about service-learning experiences, as well as help you find student interns, employees, or volunteers.
Faculty and Staff: We are here to help develop community connections for you and your students. You can use us as a resource for assisting in service-learning experiences and preparing students for entering the workforce.
