The Historical Photograph Assistant position requires computer skills, focused attention to details, respect for old photographs, ability to scan multiple photographs into a database, ability to research background information for photo descriptions. Must work well with others. We can train. It is helpful for volunteers to commit to a set schedule and at least 2-6 hours per week. The History Center is open: Tuesday - Thursday 9am - 4pm 1st & 3rd Saturday 10am - 2pm

Have research skills? A Research Specialist works on genealogical or other inquiries with a client or for a client. Research experience is preferred, but it is possible to learn on the job. Research Specialists are supervised and trained but ultimately expected to work independently. It is helpful for volunteers to commit to a set schedule and at least 2-6 hours per week. The History Center is open: Tuesday - Thursday 9am - 4pm 1st & 3rd Saturday 10am - 2pm Best day for interview is Tuesday when our resident genealogist is here. We look forward to hearing from you!

Bookstore Help Needed When we re-open after the coronavirus crisis, we need of someone to help with working on our small bookstore, helping with visual merchandising to attract, engage, and motivate our customers towards making purchases. both on site and on-line. Experience is preferred! We also have an on-line bookstore that needs attention. The History Center is open Tues-Thurs from 9-4 and the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month. Choose your own hours, as long as they are regular.

An Archival Aide works with client researchers to clarify their specific historical research needs or requests, helps get them started with our Public Access Computer Terminals (PACT), and follows up by bringing research materials from the archives to the visiting researcher. This is an opportunity to hone basic archival skills. It is helpful for volunteers to commit to a set schedule and at least 2-6 hours per week. A Data Entry Aide adds information to our database according to specific protocols. Accuracy and attention to detail required. Knowledge of databases, Excel spreadsheets, Windows 10 helpful, but not required. It is helpful for volunteers to commit to a set schedule and at least 2-6 hours per week. Community Service Workers are welcome.

Mission Statement
The mission of the Contra Costa County Historical Society is to preserve, protect, and provide public access to the records and heritage of Contra Costa County, CA.
Description
The Contra Costa County Historical Society was established as a 501(c)3 non-profit educational organization in 1951 and incorporated in 1972 for the purpose of discovering, preserving, and sharing knowledge about the history of Contra Costa County. Since 1980, the Society has maintained the Contra CostamCounty History Center for public access and use of its marvelous archive of historical records of people andevents in the county. The History Center archives contain a vast number of unique historical records thatpreserve and document Contra Costa's history, with documents from the 1830s onward. In addition, the Superior Court has designated the Society the repository of its official historical court records.
