Based in Westchester since November, 1976, WISH is a non-profit, self-funded, anonymous telephone, information and referral service.@nbsp; It is staffed solely by volunteers with diversified backgrounds.@nbsp;There are 20 women on staff including bi-lingual Japanese and Spanish speaking volunteers.The WISH office is located in The Presbyterian Church of New Rochelle, New Rochelle, NY. Calls are received from women in various socio-economic circumstances from all parts of Westchester, Rockland, Dutchess and Putnam counties as well as the metropolitan New York area.@nbsp;The calls cover the spectrum of women's issues such as physical and mental abuse, housing, marriage, separation and divorce, child care et al.@nbsp;To date approximately 60,000 calls have been received.WISH volunteers also assume responsibility for fund-raising, public relations, publicity, training and other functions which allows the organization to operate professionally.@nbsp;WISH is currently in the process of expanding its telephone capability to include an 800 number and extend its office hours.Training is ongoing and is provided by volunteers who are former social workers, psychologists, teachers, health care and business professionals.@nbsp;We regularly update our resources,which are extensive, so as to give our callers the most current information available.WISH has received many awards, among them the Distinguished Service Award from The Volunteer Center in White Plains, NY, a Certificate of Merit from the N.Y. State Senate for ourstanding community service, a Certificate of Appreciation from the Department of State and the Project Of The Year award from the Women's Equality Day committee.
