The purpose of the Council will be to plan effective ways for the community to better utilize Unity Park. To increase community cooperation and awareness by involving all segments, e.g., block clubs, churches, schools, etc., in the planning and implementation of all projects, or those co-sponsored by the Council. To provide the community with a vehicle by which information can be shared regarding the park and to provide the Chicago Park District with access to the community’s wishes and concerns. To sponsor programs, activities, and events for the purpose of involving all segments of the community. The Council will be a Chicago Park District Park Advisory Council. It will be structured as an independent, non-profit, and primarily volunteer-run organization.
The Unity Park Advisory Council is a local group made up of local parents and neighbors. The council facilitates the use of Unity Park by the public through the following.
Maintenance and up-keep of the park
Planning and fund-raising for capital improvements
Creating garden and art projects
Planning and hosting special events at the park
UPAC is organized under the Friends of the Parks advisory council guidelines.
UPAC has been in operation for 30 years.
